Case Study
Thurles Shopping Centre
Thurles Shopping Centre is a Dunnes Stores anchored centre built in 2 phases (1996 & 2007). The multi-storey carpark (MSCP) was due for a lighting upgrade and the property managers requested a review of its current energy consumption. The objective of the review was to assess the impact an upgrade would have on operational efficiency, cost and the environment. The Asset Managers were interested in what could be achieved in terms of reductions in energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Evia consulted with potential contractors and set out for the Asset Managers what could be achieved in terms of reduced energy usage and potential savings, both in energy costs and ongoing maintenance. We also explored the opportunity for Solar PV energy generation on the roof of the asset for the MSCP electricity consumption.
The analysis highlighted several initiatives which if carried out would exceed the minimum targets set out by the client.
- 490 new energy efficient LED units combined with Smart Occupancy Sensor
- High impact on current maintenance budget for lighting remedial works
- Compliance with IS 3217 Emergency Lighting Standards
- Improved Lux Levels
- Lighting kWh consumption reduction of at least 40% from current levels
- LED upgrade 2.9 years ROI
- Solar PV Generation of at least 45,000kWh annually
- Solar PV 5.7 Years ROI
- CO2 reduction of at least 30,000 Kg Co2/kWh representing 40% of current CO2 emissions
